Join the centurions and warriors of one of history’s mightiest empires in Roman Legion Xtreme. It’s a 10 reel, 20 payline slot that comes with a bonus feature that awards 10 free spins with all wilds that land staying locked in place for the duration. Join the battle from between 20p and £40 per spin.

The set up in Roman Legion Xtreme is a little unusual – the game is played on 2 reel sets that spin independently of each other. On the left is a standard 5 reel, 3 row, 5 payline machine. On the right is the Xtreme Reel – it’s a 5 reel, 9 row machine that offers a further 15 paylines. Symbols in the right machine can land stacked and fill multiple positions.

Those symbols include A to 9 playing cards as well as Roman coins, a golden eagle and a Roman flag – 5 flags on a payline pay 50 times your total stake. The shouting Roman soldier is the game’s wild – he substitutes for everything with the exception of the scatter (the legionary on horseback). Land 2, 3, 4 or 5 of these on a payline for a payout of 0.5, 5, 37.5 or 150 times your total stake.

The scatter appears on the odd numbered reels only – land 3, 4 or 5 of them anywhere on the same spin and you’ll trigger the Free Games feature where you’ll be awarded 10 free spins. Every time the wild lands, it will remain locked in position for the rest of the round.

If you manage to fill a whole reel on the right machine (9 positions), you can pick up some excellent wins on the final few free spins. We managed to collect over 240 times our total stake here after an especially nice fall of frozen wilds.

The visuals in Roman Legion Xtreme are nothing special – the soundtrack has a martial feel but sounds like it’s been recorded on a Casio keyboard. You won’t be moaning about the somewhat shoddy design once you’ve triggered the free spins round though.

Get lucky with those soldier wilds and this Roman legion can help you march away with plenty of loot if luck is with you. If you like frozen/sticky wilds in the feature, Yggdrasil Gaming’s Vikings Go Wild offers you them in the feature.
