Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a Bally-powered slot with 5 reels and 25 paylines that can be played from 75p to £150 a spin on all devices. Based on the 2004 comedy film of the same name, it stars the hilarious Will Ferrell. It comes with a number of bonus features including Mystery Stack Reels and Ron Reels in the base game, a Baxter Wilds feature where up to 10 wilds are added, a Big Bonus feature where you can gain access to 4 more bonus features.

Visually, Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy is set in the San Diego TV station – you will see characters Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Champ Kind (David Koechner), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Baxter the dog above the reel set.

Symbols on the reels include KVWN-TV vans, sunglasses, cowboy hats, whiskey tumblers and Baxter – you will also see the 4 main characters (Ron, Champ, Brian and Baxter) on the reels. Ron is the most valuable giving you 2.66 times your stake for 5 on a payline. There’s also a This Is A Wild symbol which replaces all symbols bar the Bonus and Whammy symbols.

During the base game, the reels can change to Mystery Stack Reels or Ron Reels – when Mystery Stack Reels come into play, each reel will have a number of positions that are replaced, at random, with wild, Ron, Champ, Brick, Brian, Baxter, whiskey tumbler, cowboy hat, sunglasses or KVWN-TV van symbols. When Ron Reels are in play, only wild, Ron, Champ, Baxter, whiskey tumbler and cowboy hat symbols appear on the reels.

Now, the Bonus symbol can only appear when the reels don’t change to Mystery Stack Reels or Ron Reels – when 3 Bonus symbols do not appear, the Baxter Wilds feature may activate randomly. You will get a Baxter Wilds spin with between 3 and 10 wilds randomly added on the reels.

Look out for the Bonus symbol appearing on reels 2, 3 and 4 when the Mystery Stack Reels or Ron Reels do not come into play – this will trigger the Big Bonus feature and give you 1 spin of the Big Bonus Reel. Here, you can win a cash prize of up to 13.33 times your stake, 1 of 3 fixed jackpots and access to 4 more bonus features. There’s also

The Nice Jackpot will give you 33.33 times your stake whilst the Very Nice Jackpot is worth 133.33 times your stake. The Really Good Jackpot will reward you with a cool 1,333.33 times your total stake!

When it comes to the 4 bonus features, landing on the relevant character (Ron, Champ, Brick or Brian) will give you access to the corresponding bonus feature – details are as follows:

  • Ron’s Giant Free Games feature – you will get 6 free spins with the screen expanding to 19 rows and 117 paylines. You will see 6 more Ron symbols (Fire Ron, Robe Ron, Anchor Ron, Coat Ron, Hat Ron and Weight Ron) as well as a Car Baxter symbol.
  • Whammy! Free Games feature – you will get 12 free spins with a ladder with 12 steps appearing on the screen. For each Whammy! symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4, you will win the award associated with the current step. If you get more than 1 Whammy! Symbol, you move 1 step up the ladder. If you make it to step 12, each Whammy! symbol will reward you with 13.33 times your stake.
  • Brick’s Weather Wheels feature – you spin the Blue wheel with cash prizes of between 75 and 1,000 times your stake on offer. If you land on the Level Up segment, you will get 1 spin of the Green wheel where you can win between 200 and 2,000 your stake. If you land on Level Up here, you will spin the Red wheel where a multiplier between 2 and 10x is awarded and applied to all wheel wins.
  • Sex Panther Pick feature – you pick 3 bottles from the 15 on display. Each pick will give you a cash prize. You can reveal +1 Pick which gives you another pick to help you win more. Then you choose from 5 packets to reveal a multiplier between 2 and 10x -t his is applied by the winnings from the bottles.

All in all, Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy is an entertaining slot with plenty of bonus features – I found the Whammy! Free Games feature the most rewarding as getting a cash prize of up to 13.33 times your stake for each Whammy! symbol can really add up. I also like the randomly triggered Baxter Wilds feature which can add up to 10 wilds in the base game.

Overall, it’s a decent game but low to medium variance – it can pay big in the features described but it offers a nice balance of gameplay and entertainment. If you loved the film (and the second instalment), I would recommend it – I also suggest you try some of Bally’s other branded titles with Michael Jackson King of Pop and Titanic good options.
