Jade Tiger is a traditional Chinese-themed slot powered by Ainsworth. Featuring classy design, it’s a 5 reel, 30 payline game that comes with a free spins feature and a Lucky Feature where symbols can transform into something of higher value. Play from between 30p and £3,000 per spin.

The design in Jade Tiger is rather nice – an ornate, green fabric forms the backdrop to the reels. Those reels include Ainsworth’s usual A to 9 playing cards as well as a range of symbols relating to the Chinese theme.

In ascending order of value, look out for a golden tortoise, a vase, a fortune cookie, an ornament and a fish. Land 5 of the latter 2 on a payline and you’ll pocket 200 coins. They’re joined by the tiger which is the game’s wild – it doesn’t award any cash payouts but replaces all other symbols apart from the scatter.

The jade coin is the scatter – land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the reels on the same spin and you’ll win a payout of 2, 10 or 50 times your total stake. You’ll also trigger the Free Games feature and with it, 10 free spins.

These free spins are played out on a new set of reels. The tiger wild can only land on the middle 3 reels during the feature. You’ll add 5 free spins to your total if you manage to land 3 jade coins on the same spin. You’ll notice a couple of extra symbols during the free spins. The Jade Tiger logo, which appears fully stacked and the Lucky Boy. If you land the Lucky Boy on reels 1 and 5 on the same spin, you’ll activate the Lucky Feature.

Here you’ll be awarded 1 free spin with reels 1 and 5 turning wild and held. The Chinese letter character is the ‘Lucky’ symbol, appearing on the middle 3 reels only. Every Lucky that lands will then be replaced by the same matching symbol which, with the held reels, can offer some big combinations.

Jade Tiger is a typical Ainsworth slot – the visuals are better than some of the developer’s other efforts but the soundtrack is a little disappointing. The gameplay is solid enough though. We hit the free spins regularly but never managed to land a real biggie. The best chances came after triggering the Lucky Feature where the stacked wilds can have a big impact.

This isn’t the most exciting slot you’ll see but offers perfectly decent entertainment. If you enjoy the Chinese-theme, Jade Tiger is one to add to your rotation. Alternatively, Playtech offer you plenty with Sun Wukong a good option.
