Jade Emperor is a Chinese-themed jackpot slot powered by Ainsworth. Not to be confused with the Playtech game of the same name, this version is played using a 5 reel, 30 payline game engine and comes with a bonus feature that awards up to 25 free spins initially as well as offering a shot at 1 of 4 jackpot bonus prizes. Play from between 30p and £3,000 per spin.

The design in Jade Emperor is typical Ainsworth – the visuals are reminiscent of a live casino slot. They’re not the most sophisticated you’ll see but they do the job okay. Set against the interior of a Chinese palace, the reels include A to 9 playing cards alongside a peach, a jade pot, a lantern, lion and dragon heads.

The latter 2 are the top standard symbols, paying 200 coins if you land 5 on a payline. The bearded emperor is the game’s wild – it replaces all other symbols apart from the scatter and can land fully stacked on reels 3, 4 and 5 only.

Look out too for the temple which is the game’s scatter – land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the reels on the same spin and you’ll win a payout equal to 2, 20 or 50 times your total stake. You’ll also trigger the Free Games feature and with it, 10, 15 or 25 free spins. This is played using a new paytable – every time you land 2 temple scatters on the same free spin. another 5 free spins are added to your tally.

Jade Emperor also offers a shot at winning 1 pf 4 jackpot prizes – you’ll notice a 6th mini reel spinning next to the main set. If you land a 5 of a king combination plus the crown in the 6th reel you’ll trigger the King Strike Bonus feature.

Whether you win the Mini, Minor, Maxi or Major prize depends on which symbol formed the 5-in-a-row combination and whether or not it included a wild. Awards of up to 333 times your stake are possible here.

Jade Emperor is a pretty simple affair and plays like a classic brick and mortar slot. The design is decent enough though and the soundtrack certainly adds to the Chinese theme. The Free Games feature is the likeliest route to landing a big win thanks to the stacked wilds.

This isn’t the most innovative slot you’ll see but it’s a perfectly solid offering. If you like the Chinese genre, then Jade Emperor is certainly worth considering. Playtech offer many with Sun Wukong one of my favourites.
