Get set for some heroic medieval adventure in Wolfheart, an 8 reel, 60 payline slot powered by 2 By 2 Gaming. Played out on an unusual game engine, it comes with a bonus feature that offers up to 100 free spins with wild multipliers that can double payouts. Play from between 40p and £160 per spin.

The set up you’ll see in Wolfheart is a little different to what’s on offer in most slots – there are 2 reels to the left made up of 6 rows. They’re joined on the right by 2 3×3 reels sets on top of each other. That makes 8 reels in total. The 2 left reels can combine with the adjacent reel set on the right.

Symbols can appear stacked 6-high on the left reels and 3-high on the right. It all sounds a little confusing at first so a few spins in demo play are recommended to get your eye in.

Once you do, it’s all pretty straightforward – symbols on the reels include playing card suits as well as a wolf necklace, sword and scabbard, wolf, castle, standard and a princess. The prince is the game’s wild, substituting for all other symbols in the base game apart from the scatter which is the key to unlocking the feature round.

The scatter can land on all 3 reel sets independently which will trigger the Free Spins feature. The more that land, the more free spins you’ll be awarded. On offer are:

  • 3 scatters = 8 free spins
  • 4 scatters = 12 free spins
  • 5 scatters = 16 free spins
  • 6 scatters = 25 free spins
  • 7 scatters = 40 free spins
  • 8 scatters = 60 free spins

During the feature, the prince and princess symbols become white and black wolves. They are both wild and boost any winning payline in which they feature (apart from a 3-wild combination) with a doubling 2x multiplier. You can re-trigger even more free spins here too if the scatter lands again.

  • 2 scatters = 2 free spins
  • 3 scatters = 8 free spins
  • 4 scatters = 12 free spins
  • 5 scatters = 16 free spins
  • 6 scatters = 25 free spins
  • 7 scatters = 40 free spins

Wolfheart also comes with a Mystery feature – on any given spin, certain positions on the reels can be transformed with any symbol bar the wild and scatter appearing in their place.

This medieval yarn takes a little getting used to – once you have become accustomed to the unorthodox game engine, then there’s plenty to enjoy though. The graphics aren’t especially sophisticated. In fact, they look a little clunky. The stirring soundtrack enhances the atmosphere though.

The gameplay is solid in the base game but comes into its own during the bonus round. Trigger a healthy number of free spins then get those wild multipliers flowing and there are some decent winning opportunities on offer in this medieval tale. If you like the theme, Bally’s Lady Robin Hood is worth a closer look.
