The design in Treasure of the Pyramids is fairly primitive – symbols include lower value A to 9 playing cards, each of which is set against a stone tablet. There’s also a range of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Look out for the Tutankhamun style burial mask, an Egyptian queen, the Eye of Ra and the bird god Horus. The most rewarding symbol is the pyramids symbol as 5 of these award 1,000 coins. You only need to land 2 of the Egyptian-themed symbols to create a winner.
There’s also a wild that replaces all other symbols bar the scatter. The scarab beetle is that scatter land 3, 4 or 5 of them on the same payline and you’ll get a payout of 25, 250 or 300 coins. Land 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels and you’ll trigger the Bonus feature.
This is a classic pick me feature. You’ll be taken to a new screen and presented with 3 artefacts – an ornately designed vase, a bust of an Egyptian queen or a burial chamber. Pick 1 to reveal an instant cash bonus. The more scatters that triggered the feature, the bigger the potential rewards on offer from your selection.
Treasure of the Pyramids is a simple game – the cartoon-style visuals are pretty basic. The soundtrack has a haunting quality though which certainly adds to the atmosphere. There’s not a lot to report on the features front either. The only extra on offer is the pick me round. That’s perfectly solid but we’d have like to seen something else added to the mix (like free spins)
We’d put the variance here on the low side of medium – we enjoyed plenty of lower levels wins without ever threatening to break the bank. The pick me round landed at regular intervals to help things along too.
If you like Egyptian-themed slots, there are already plenty to choose from. A little on the dull side, Treasure of the Pyramids offers little that’s fresh. If you enjoy games based on the ancient world, there are many better alternatives such as Novomatic’s Book of Ra Deluxe 6 and Quickspin’s Phoenix Sun.
