The design here is excellent. Set against a circus backdrop, you’ll see heart, diamond, club and spade symbols adorned with glowing bulbs. They’re joined by a trio of animal performers and a fortune teller. The creepy magician is the best standard symbol. This pays 1.6, 6 or 20 times your stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. The ringmaster’s whip is the standard wild. This is joined by the rather deranged looking clown which is a second wild. Whenever the clown appears, it expands to turn the whole of that reel wild.
The knives symbol is the scatter. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these on the same spin and you’ll trigger the game’s Free Spins feature. On offer here are 8, 10 or 15 free spins. A new symbol joins the action here, the axe thrower’s target. This is another wild symbol. When this lands, it locks in position for the next 3 free spins.
We enjoyed this carnival show. The design is terrific and backed by a creepy backing track that’s a perfect fit for the theme. There’s nothing especially innovative about the gameplay here. We’ve seen a similar selection of features in plenty of other slots. The expanding wilds can certainly pep up the base game though. The Free Spins feature can be well worth hitting too thanks to the sticky wilds.
We found the variance to be in the medium range with the top payout 500 times your stake on each spin or free spin. Visually, we were pleasantly surprised by Sinister Circus. It looks and sounds excellent and comes with some simple but very playable extras.
Saying that, it doesn’t offer anything we’ve not come across board in terms of gameplay. If you want a trip to the circus, albeit a more conventional one, Play ‘N Go’s Golden Ticket would be my choice – you can also win up to 20,578 times your stake!
