Microgaming’s Highlander slot coming soon

Microgaming has announced that they have signed a licensing agreement to develop a Highlander slot – find out what to expect.

Highlander, the film, was released in 1986 and was directed by Russel Mulcahy. Based on a story by Gregory Widen, it’s set in the 1980s in New York City and Scotland. Featuring Christopher Lambert as immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, other acts include Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. The story sees an age-old battle between immortal warriors.

Since its release, Highlander has achieved cult status and made Christopher Lambert a world-famous actor – with various sequels and spin-offs produced, the slot version promises to be just as popular amongst slot players.

The agreement has been signed by Microgaming with Studiocanal (and brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation) with the slot going live on Wednesday the 6th of December (2017). It will have 5 reels and 243 ways to win. David Reynolds (Microgaming’s Games Publisher) comments on what to expect:

“Highlander is seen as one of the great cult hits of the 80s. With its action-packed storyline and hefty rock inspired composition, it is a fantastic brand for an online slot. The game studio is busy completing the slot that captures all of the movie magic. The game’s features will incorporate the historical Scottish Highlands and gritty New York City, with a classic movie poster art style and blistering guitar tracks.”

Creative Licensing Corporation’s Stephanie Kupperman confirmed that Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) and The Kurgan (Clancy Brown) will feature in the slot as it retells the epic story. When we have more details, we will share them.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of movie themed slots to play – when it comes to Microgaming, you have Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, Bridesmaids and Terminator 2. However, I highly recommend the latest movie tie-in from Playtech – The Matrix.

The 5 reel, 50 payline game is based on the iconic 1999 film and is playable from 50p a spin on all devices – visually stunning and with footage from the movie, there’s a Déjà vu Shuffle feature where you will get 2 wild reels on reels 1 and 5 with the other symbols shuffling to give you a win.

There’s also 2 free spins features – the Agent Smith Free Games feature gives you 8 free spins with the high value Agent Smith symbol showing more prominently on the reels. The Nebuchadnezzar Free Games feature sees sentinel wilds swarm the reels which lock in place until the orb removes them – you will carry on spinning until you see 6 wilds on the reels at once.
