Credit card fees are to be added for gambling transactions in the UK – BarclayCard will implement a 2.99% charge on gambling and lottery ticket purchases.
According to ThisIsMoney.co.uk, gambling transactions will soon be treated as cash withdrawals. Wagers placed online as well as lottery ticket purchases are seen by BarclayCard as normal purchases – they therefore have no charges attached.
With BarclayCard’s latest move, gambling transactions will be treat as cash withdrawals – they will therefore charge a fee of 2.99% on the wager amount or a minimum of £2.99. This is effective from May the 28th 2012 onwards. This is sure to annoy gambling customers. BarclayCard will also increase fees for customers who withdraw cash on their credit cards.
